Description
The objective of this NSERC pilot funding opportunity is to support investigator-initiated individual and team Discovery research projects that broadly integrate or transcend disciplines to advance knowledge in the natural sciences and engineering (NSE) and would significantly benefit from being assessed by an interdisciplinary peer review committee. Full applications submitted to this NSERC program will thus be reviewed by a tri-agency interdisciplinary peer review committee, which NSERC is piloting in partnership with CIHR and SSHRC. The duration of projects are up to 5 years.

DHDP Catalyst Program
Description
Canada's federally funded Digital Health and Discovery Platform (DHDP) has launched their Catalyst Program. Catalyst will follow Mitac's Accelerate format and provide $15,000 in funding to support industry partnered projects and internships. Projects will focus on the advancement of next generation health data technologies including: data access; data ingestion; data federation and AI/Machine learning with applications in cancer and Neurology.

NSERC Idea to Innovation Grants
Description
The objective of NSERC's Idea to Innovation (I2I) grants is to accelerate the pre-competitive development of promising technology originating from the university and college sector and promote its transfer to a new or established Canadian company. The I2I grants provide funding to college and university faculty members to support research and development projects with recognized technology transfer potential. This is achieved through defined phases by providing crucial assistance in the early stages of technology validation and market connection.

NSERC Innovative Approaches to Research in the Pandemic Context
Description
The goal of this competition is to accelerate the exploration of new approaches and the development and testing of new directions in research methodologies. It is expected that this call will predominately support new ways of conducting community and field-based research, since the pandemic has had the greatest impact on researchers’ ability to collect data and conduct this type of research. Rapid response grants will support projects to continue work that was interrupted or stalled by the pandemic and that trial and test a novel and innovative research approach with the potential to benefit Canada and the world. Proposals must be time sensitive and demonstrate a new way of doing research in situations where conventional or established research methods cannot be used due to COVID-19-related restrictions.

UBC Health After 2020
Description
This program is designed to support faculty members at UBC Vancouver and Okanagan to engage in interdisciplinary collaborations and build a community of UBC Health scholars. Health Research Foundation Fellowship in Health Systems Resilience
Description
The Fellowship funds research designed to enhance the resilience of Canada's health systems - that is, the capacity to accommodate and adapt to shocks while maintaining and improving effective performance over time. Areas of focus with the health system could include long term care, public health agencies of the provinces, regulation and regulators, organizational develop of health systems, accountability, the role of management and the role of science, and international comparative work among others.

CIHR Planning & Dissemination Grants
Description
The Planning and Dissemination Grants are intended to provide support for planning and/or dissemination activities (either virtual or in-person) consistent with the mandate of CIHR and relevant to CIHR Institutes and Initiatives.
The specific objectives of this funding opportunity are:

CIHR Spring 2022 Project Grant
Description
The Project Grant program is designed to capture ideas with the greatest potential for important advances in fundamental or applied health-related knowledge, health care, health systems, and/or health outcomes by supporting projects of research proposed and conducted by individual researchers or groups of researchers in all areas of health. The best ideas may stem from new, incremental, innovative, and/or high-risk lines of inquiry or knowledge translation approaches.
The Project Grant program is open to applicants in all areas of health research that are aligned with the CIHR mandate: "To excel, according to internationally accepted standards of scientific excellence, in the creation of new knowledge and its translation into improved health for Canadians, more effective health services and products, and a strengthened Canadian health care system".

The total amount available for the Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 Project Grant Competitions is $650M.
Within the investment allocated to each Project Grant competition, there will be a funding envelope of:

$16.25M dedicated to large grants. Large grants are defined as those within the top 2% largest total grant amount requested by all applicants within the competition and varies with each competition. This budget envelope is not intended for series of projects to be bundled together for long-term support. Individual grant applications requesting a total of more than the total dedicated amount for the competition will be withdrawn.

UBC Faculty of Medicine Multidisciplinary Research Program in Medicine
Description
The Faculty of Medicine Multidisciplinary Research Program in Medicine (FoM MRPM) provides undergraduate students with an opportunity to explore their interest in interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research by undertaking a summer project supervised by a cross-faculty pair of researchers based on the success of the University of British Columbia at Okanagan’s Multidisciplinary Undergraduate Research Projects in Health (MURPH) program. Research projects require one FoM supervisor and one non-FoM co-supervisor from another faculty.
Applications for supervisors and students will be completed separately at two different timepoints. Project applications submitted by supervisors will be adjudicated by committee and supervisors will be notified of successful applications prior to student applications opening. Students will then apply to successful research projects in a separate application process.
Funds Available
If successful, supervisors will receive up to three students, two non-MD undergraduate students (in their second year or higher) for 16-weeks ($8,400 student stipend) and one optional first-year MD student for 8-weeks ($3,200 student stipend). Supervisors are required to pay at least $2,400 per non-MD student contingent on eligible student awards through MRPM.

CIHR Health System Impact Fellowship
Description
The Health System Impact (HSI) Fellowship (for doctoral trainees and post-doctoral fellows) provides highly-qualified doctoral trainees and post-doctoral fellows studying health services and policy research (HSPR), or related fields, a unique opportunity to apply their research and analytic talents to critical challenges in health care that are being addressed by health system and related organizations (e.g., public, private for-profit, not-for-profit, and Indigenous health organizations that are not universities) outside of the traditional university setting, and to also develop professional experience, new skills, and networks.
The HSI Fellowship provides doctoral and post-doctoral awardees, both referred to as fellows, with an embedded research opportunity within health system and related organizations where they will dedicate the majority of their time towards a co-developed program of work that advances the organization’s impact goals and contributes to improved health system performance. Fellows will be exposed to how the health system and related organizations work, how decisions are made, how research and analytic skills can contribute to an organization’s rapid learning and improvement, and the organization’s role in contributing to improved health and health system performance.

Description
The Indigenous Strategic Initiatives (ISI) Fund supports implementation of the 2020 Indigenous Strategic Plan. Funds are available to support projects that advance UBC’s Indigenous Strategic Plan priority actions across both the Vancouver and Okanagan campuses.
