Giulia Cocco MSc Student
Originally from Sardinia (Italy), I moved to Canada at the ripe age of 12. Later, I graduated with a BSc in Neuroscience and Psychology from the University of Lethbridge. Here I had the privilege of researching Alzheimer’s neuropathology and hippocampal function under Dr. Sutherland’s tutelage. In these years, I developed a passion for research with a particular focus on healthy aging. Having grown up in one of the Blue Zones of the world, this topic holds a deep meaning to me.
I’m now working with Dr. Snyder on bridging the gap in knowledge about the mechanisms underlying early-life stress events, the phenomenon of infantile amnesia and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). My research aims to reconcile the relationship between the hippocampus and amygdala in the occurrence of these events.
I joined the DASH research cluster because I am passionate about fostering reconciliation between science disciplines and the progress that can arise from such collaborations, perhaps because I am the product of a "cultural collaboration" myself. Furthermore, I am eager to learn more about AI integration in our daily lives and its potential as a diagnostic tool in the future.
When I’m not nose-deep in my books, I enjoy walking in nature, volunteering and trying new delicious recipes!
