Dr. Rabinowitz is a co-founder of PHEMI and serves as Chief Medical Officer. He was formerly the Medical Director of the Coronary Care Unit and is currently a cardiologist at St Paul’s Hospital, Vancouver, and a Clinical Associate Professor in the Division of Cardiology at the University of British Columbia.
Dr. Alan Rabinowitz received his medical degree from the University of Cape Town, South Africa, completed his internal medicine and cardiology training at the University of Toronto and undertook subsequent training in interventional cardiology at St Paul’s Hospital, University of British Columbia. He is currently a cardiologist and an Associate Professor in the Division of Cardiology at the University of British Columbia and has recently taken on roles as a strategic advisor on innovation and global partnerships in the St. Paul’s Hospital redevelopment project as well as an advisory role to the CEO of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada on innovation and implementation science.
Dr. Rabinowitz is a strategic adviser to the www.RCCbc.ca which coordinates healthcare on behalf of the citizens of rural British Columbia, Canada and has a strong focus on health system transformation for Indigenous and other rural populations.
In his former capacity as Director of the Coronary Care Unit at St Paul’s Hospital, Dr. Rabinowitz recognized the critical importance of disruptive data solutions in transforming patient care, research and health delivery systems. This ultimately resulted in his co-founding PHEMI.
This has spawned numerous data-driven partnerships in precision and translational medicine. These have the potential to enhance mechanistic insights into disease causation, and, as well, positively affect the wellness of populations on a global scale. Additional projects are focused on improving health delivery operational efficiency, with a focus on building models of sustainability. Dr. Rabinowitz is directly involved in many of these collaborations, both in his individual capacity and as Chief Medical Officer and Advisory Board member at PHEMI.
