Dr. Min Hyung Ryu PhD
(He, Him, His)
Assistant Professor
Division of Respiratory Medicine
Faculty of Medicine
Dr. Min Hyung Ryu is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Respiratory Medicine and serves as a Principal Investigator at both the Centre for Lung Health and the Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute. He holds the Moira and David Yeung Professorship in Respiratory Medicine at the University of British Columbia.
Dr. Ryu is passionate about transforming the way health information, alonging with molecular diagnosis data, is shared and utilized. Modern medicine produces enormous amounts of data from diagnostic tests and clinical encounters, yet much of this data remains isolated in different systems. His work is dedicated to creating a more connected and accessible data ecosystem in British Columbia. By developing innovative tools and privacy-focused approaches, his research strives to break down these barriers, making it easier for researchers and healthcare providers to collaborate and improve patient care.
Focusing on the integration of molecular and clinical data, Dr. Ryu’s lab uses cutting-edge techniques in data science and population omics research. Their goal is to uncover new preventative strategies and treatments for chronic respiratory diseases, all while building a platform that supports rapid, effective responses to emerging health challenges.
Dr. Ryu completed his postdoctoral training at the Channing Division of Network Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School in 2024. He earned his PhD in Experimental Medicine from UBC in 2021, after obtaining an MSc in Physiology and Pathophysiology from the University of Manitoba and a BSc in Life Sciences from Queen’s University.
His vision is to harness big molecular and clinical data in ways that empower patients, trainees, and healthcare teams, paving the way for a healthier future for all.
