Dr. Tibor van Rooij


Lead, Digital Health Research initiative

Presently, Dr. Tibor van Rooij is the Lead, Digital Health Research Initiative at the BC Children's Hospital Research Institute. His former positions have included: Director Pharmacogenomics and Personalized Medicine for TELUS Health, Director of Bioinformatics for Pharmacogenomics at Génome Québec, and Assistant Teaching Professor at the University of Victoria in the Department of Computer Science. Tibor has more than 15 years of experience in bioinformatics and health information science, a strong background in computer science and computational biology and more than 12 years in leadership and upper-management roles. He has experience in business analysis, strategic planning, development, and implementation of research software projects. His PhD research developed medical informatics pipelines for genomic-based clinical decision support in eHealth and mHealth. He has a strong applied-research focus on improving healthcare by guiding the implementation of novel multi-disciplinary models in Digital Health.  Areas of strengths include change management and team building to address data flow bottlenecks; optimizing data collection and large-scale storage; interpretation; reporting; clinical decision support; translation of evidence-based medicine; and medical mobile app development.
