Data and Analytics Team Lead, Population Health Surveillance & Epidemiology

Henry Ngo is the Data & Analytics Lead of the Population Health Surveillance & Epidemiology team at the BC Office of the Provincial Health Officer. He holds a PhD in Planetary Science from the California Institute of Technology, where his research work included discovering the birth stories of planets in other solar systems. In January 2020, he joined the Office of the PHO and redirected his data science and statistics experience to public health problems.

He leads a team of data scientists and analysts to support government reporting as well as applied research projects using administrative health datasets, medical records, spatial data, and public datasets such as census and surveys. He is especially interested in Bayesian inference, developing research tools in R and Python, and using machine learning to validate case definitions and other classification algorithms.
